Barbara Weber, Early DaysBarbara Weber was 9 she entered a local drawing contest. She should have won but the person conducting the contest did not believe that Barbara had drawn the pictures herself. He told her mother, "Lady, if you want your kid to win a contest -- then let the kid do the drawing!" He didn't even let her prove it by doing the drawing in front of him.
This is Barbara Weber's Studio where she would paint those wonderful character studies and nudes. By the door is one of her umber nudes that were very popular. She did paint other things: like clowns and scenes of Spain. ![]() Barbara Weber moved to the second floor of this building in 1956 and began exibiting in the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach at that time. Weber became well known and respected by many talented artists. One of them described Barbara Weber as an "artist's artist". She had exibited in the "Festival" 13 years when a young sailor came into her life in 1969, Lawrence Wright. He lived in the 3-apartment hotel next door for 5 months then moved into her spare bedroom. ![]() |
