Submission Guidelines
for Moon Journal Press Publications

Moon Journal Magazine was created to be an author-friendly feminist publication. Our aim is to publish as many local feminist writers as possible, to provide a forum for the great variety of voices we hear rising at this turn of the Millennium.

Anyone may submit poetry and prose for publication. We will consider simultaneous submissions and reprint rights as well as first rights. If the piece has been published before, include the exact name of the publication where it appeared. In the interest of publishing as many writers as possible, only one piece per author will be chosen for any given issue.

All prose submissions must be typed and double spaced; poetry should be single spaced and may follow the author's format. Be sure to include your name, address, day and evening phone numbers, and self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE). Although we read continuously, deadlines are August 1 for the Fall/Winter issue and February 1 for the Spring/Summer issue. You will be paid one copy of the issue in which your work appears.

Moon Journal Press Chapbook Publications is pleased to accept submissions for chapbook publications from subscribers only. Authors who submit will work with editors until books are ready for publication. Please be sure to give your name, address, phone number and — if you have it — fax or e-mail. Also include a SASE for return of manuscripts and partial manuscripts with feed-back; include a SApostcard if you wish to be notified that your manuscript has been received. Editorial comment can also be given by e-mail or phone if convenient.

Chapbooks are 24-48 page, soft-covered books; poetry books are generally shorter than those containing prose. The majority of pieces must be previously unpublished in Moon Journal. Payment will consist of 10 copies. Chicago area authors may be asked to do readings and book signings.

Once again, we read continuously. However, we’ll hold to a deadline of December 31 for chapbooks to be published during the following year.

Whenever your work is accepted for publication in either our magazine or in a chapbook, please help us by providing it on a disk. Any word processing program used by Macintosh is acceptable. If you work on a P.C., either a 3.5 or 5 inch disk is acceptable (preferably formatted in WordPerfect DOS).

Subscriptions are $20.00 per year. Subscribers receive two issues of Moon Journal Magazine and all chapbooks published within that year—usually two. We appreciate your support.
