NewTown Writers

NewTown Writers is a gay and lesbian writers' salon based in Chicago, Illinois, and holds fortnightly workshop-style meetings where members share works-in-progress. With a mission of fostering gay literature, NewTown Writers publishes the literary anthology Off The Rocks and the e-zine Swell.

Since its founding in 1980, NewTown Writers has guided countless writers in finding their literary voices. Members include award-winning authors with many publishing credits, as well as emerging writers sharing their first effort. Incorporated in 1988, NewTown Writers, Inc. is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation.

Miscellaneous

  • Meetings are generally held on the first and third Thursday of every month.
  • Guest Author Series, Solo Homo (monologues), and Featured Reader with Open Mic are held at the Bailiwick Arts Center, 1229 West Belmont, Chicago (Loft Theater). Free and open to the public.
  • Copies of Off The Rocks, volume 11 (www.newtownwriters.org/Publications.html) are available at our regular meetings, and at the following bookstores:
